Q. How private is the property?
A. Serenity Cottage is located on a fully wooded 2 acre lot. The pre-existing foliage has been supplemented by newly planted evergreens to provide full privacy while enjoying yourself on the deck or hot tub.
Q. Will we need to bring dishes and cutlery? Pots and pans?
A. No. We provide everything you need in the kitchen except consumables.
Q. Is the tap water safe to drink?
A. Yes, Georgian Bay is a very clean lake. In addition, for added purity, we have had a UV sterilized/carbon filtration system installed. You do not need to bring bottled water.
Q. Will linens/towels be provided?
A. No. We provide blankets, comforters, and pillows, but you will need to bring your own bed sheets, pillowcases, kitchen towels, bath towels, etc. For an additional fee we will provide bed sheets, pillowcases and bathroom towels (not beach towels).
Q. What household appliances are at the cottage?
A. High end fridge, smooth topped stove, 2 dishwashers, washer, dryer (2 more fridges on the lower level and small bar fridge)
Plus a 5 burner propane BBQ (we supply the propane) and a large wood fired spit roaster.
Q. Do you have air conditioning?
A. Yes, the cottage has a complete heating/air conditioning and humidity control system.
Q. Can we bring our pet?
A. Please inquire about our dog policy with the owners—this is decided on a case-by-case basis. Cats are not permitted at the cottage.
Q. Can we smoke in the cottage and/or sauna cabin?
A. No, we ask smokers to smoke outside. We are adamant about this request.
Q. What is the beach and lake bottom like?
A. The beach and lake bottom consist of flat rock and pebbled rock. It is a very gradual walk into the deeper water.
Q. Is the lake water nice to swim in?
A. Yes, it is a beautiful, clean, slightly turquoise coloured lake.
Q. Is there a shallow area for young children?
A. There is a gradual slope into the deeper water—fine for young children.
Q. Is there good fishing on Georgian Bay?
A. Yes, the lake has very good fishing. Some of the species of fish that can be caught there are trout, perch, whitefish, pickerel, and bass.
Q. Should we bring our own life jackets?
A. Yes. We do provide a limited selection of life jacket sizes. However, for your safety, we ask you to bring your own life jackets, as they will fit you properly.
Q. We want to bring our own boat up. Is there a marina nearby where we can launch it? Do you have a dock?
A. There is a marina in Owen Sound. You may visit their website at www.owensoundmarina.com
We do not have a dock. You may possibly moor your boat offshore.
Q. Are the hot tub and sauna available in the winter?
A. Yes, both the hot tub and sauna are year round amenities
Q. Is there an outdoor fire pit? Do we need to bring firewood?
A. There are several fire pits – two lakeside and one roadside (and a portable to take to the tobogganing hill) We supply the firewood for the fire pits and for the sauna.
Q. How close is the nearest hospital? Grocery store? Other shopping?
A. Owen Sound is only 20 minutes away – with a brand new hospital, a variety of grocery stores, the LCBO, beer store and a large selection of restaurants and box stores.
